Music Reviews - September 2021

Whilst maneuvering through my busiest, most successful and most popular month of events here in Dubai, I found some moments to zone out a little and go crate digging, metaphorically, of the Cloud of Sound. This month we have some awesome mixes from Mr Shakatak and LeBRON, alongside some immenseness from Pete Le Freq and Mayer Hawthorne.

There's lots of free music downloads on SoundCloud too - if you don't have an account yet, get on it! Follow me at SoundCloud.com/Owen_Daniel for more & and/or for genre-ish specific stuff, check my SC playlists: Future Funk & Nu Disco, Hip-Hop (Ippity Oppity), R&B, Reggae, Disco Classics, MiniMixes, and Kandi Tastic (Soulful House).

Top Tune Reviews

Mayer Hawthorne - Someone Like You (Sylow Rooftop Remix)

This one has the ooooh-weee factor right from the get go. Sylow's pitched-up edit is a raw, funk-filled, number complete with hightened strings, bass and a kick drum guarunteeing good vibes.

Johnie Taylor - What About My Love (Pete Le Freq 2021 Refreq)

Somehow I've got this far through life without realising where those chords from Lola's Theme came from. Pete Le Freq solves that little mystery with this delightful re-edit of a 1982 classic.

Mega Mix Reviews

LeBRON - Late Night Disco Mixtape

A funk-filled Ozzy, now based in Paris unleashes a disco-fulled mix that simply must make the cut. With tracks by The Temptations (Treat Her Like A Lady), Mariya Takeuchi (Plastic Love), Mystic Merlin (Just Can't Give You Up) alongside many more disco gems demands some love.

Mr Shakatak - Disco Juice (Classics Regrooved)

An hour-long groove-filled mix by Italy's Gianni 'Shakatak' Chiavaro. Highlights include edits of disco classics such as Barry White's 'Can't Get Enough of Your Love Babe', Chic's 'Good Times', Kool & The Gang 'Get Down On It' and Delegation's 'You and I' to name a few…
