Music Reviews - October 2021

Amidst the madness of not having a day off for months, juggling a silly amount of events, levelling up here in Dubai, I manage to still tune in and discover some new music. Only SanFranDisko was on my radar, before I added Beatwell, Music In The Air and DiCE NZ this month - all of whom are worth a follow if you dig these vibes.

There's lots of free music downloads on SoundCloud too - if you don't have an account yet, get on it! Follow me at SoundCloud.com/Owen_Daniel for more & and/or for genre-ish specific stuff, check my SC playlists: Future Funk & Nu Disco, Hip-Hop (Ippity Oppity), R&B, Reggae, Disco Classics, MiniMixes, and Kandi Tastic (Soulful House).

Top Tune Reviews

DiCE - Paradise

Sampling the 80s hit from Barbara Streisand, New Zealand's DiCE gets on the slow-mo edit action with this melodic treat. Downtempo, funky, airy and a little bit fairy - liking this one a lot.

Rufus ft Chaka Khan - Any Love (SanFranDisko Re-Rub)

Bringing a much-needed nu disco touch, SanFranDisko rekindles this 1979 hit by the flawless Chaka Khan. This one's an extended 7 plus minute masterpiece and is nu disco at its finest.

Mega Mix Reviews

Soft! [mixtape] - Beatwell

Clearly, one of Oslo's finest, Beatwell delivers a shoulder-shaking mix of disco inspired tracks and re-edits. Highlights include efforts from the likes of Crazy P, Old Chap, Hotmood, Girls of the Internet, Al Kent and Kon to name a few. Sublime mix and an awesome new artist on my radar.

Sand & Rain / Soul Gems Ingredients - Music is in the Air

An intro from Nancy Holloway leads into a blissful, eclectic, 30 mins of retro soul & disco from a mysterious frenchman (or woman) who goes by the name of Music In The Air, or Asta-La-Vista-Baby, or Hasta-La-Vista-Baby. Whoever it is, they have great tastes and deserve a follow.
