Music Reviews - November 2021

Ooof. Well that was a bat-shit-crazy month of Smashing the Granny Out of it. Some way, somehow, I still dug some classic reworks of Al Green and Rose Royce alonsgide a Joey Negro tribute mix and something special by Monsieur Aymeric.

Top Tune Reviews

Rose Royce - You Abandoned Me (Dave Mathmos Interpretation)

Supplied by the Too Slow to Disco crew, this time Dave Mathmos gets in on the slow-mo action. Reworking this classic from 1978, his extended mix loops the vocals and builds it up epically.

Al Green - Let's Stay Together (DJ Fudge Remix)

Getting on the remix duty for a track that's - perhaps unbeleivably - almost 50 years old now, international jetsetting Frenchmen (and recent Defected signing) DJ Fudge takes up the mantle.

Mega Mix Reviews

Monsieur Aymeric - Horizontal

Have Shazam at the ready for this one. An eclectic mix from the self proclaimed 'just another bedroom DJ' that is Monsieur Aymeric, the French-touched and slightly bearded-influenced effot includes delightfulness from Fabich, Those Guys from Athens & Anoraak & Sarah Maison.

Joey Negro Tribute Mix - Jorge Branco aka DJ White

With a title like that, it cried for attention. From the get go Evelyn King's timless vocals carry through an epic nod to one of the masters of disco house. Stand out tracks include edits of Earth, Wind & Fire, Christopher Cross, and - of course - Gladys Knight.
