Music Reviews - May 2021

Despite the manicness of May is for Mayhem, I somehow (albeit post-dealine) managed to find some time to update the choon selection of the site. This month, some edits from Stubacca and Hippie Torrales and mixes from The Funk Assassin and Cedric Vian.

There's lots of free music downloads on SoundCloud too - if you don't have an account yet, get on it! Follow me at SoundCloud.com/Owen_Daniel for more & and/or for genre-ish specific stuff, check my SC playlists: Future Funk & Nu Disco, Hip-Hop (Ippity Oppity), R&B, Reggae, Disco Classics, MiniMixes, and Kandi Tastic (Soulful House).

Top Tune Reviews

Hippie Torrales - Mercy Mercy Me (2020 Mix)

A slow-building edit of Gaye's timeless classic from a new artist to my ears. Enhancing the vocals and tweaking the accoustics of the 1971 original equates to a spiritual re-rub that's pure class.

Gwen McCrae - Let's Straighten It Out (Stubacca Edit)

From a guy I've featured and reviewed recently, the New Zealand-based Stubacca does some serious nu-disco justice to this 80s gem - straightening it out for dancefloors the world over.

Mega Mix Reviews

Cedric Vian - 30 Slowgooves Edition (May 2021 - Free Download)

An eclectic blend of downtempo flavours that whet the appetite completely. Compiled by the grandson of the legendary Boris Vian (of "Le D├ęserteur" fame), this 90-minute mix includes epicness from Tyrone, Evelyn 'Champagne' King and a lovely Donny Hathaway re-edit.

The Funk Assassin - Glitterbox Classics Mix

An hour and a half mix of disco dancefloor destroyers from the man behind The Word Is Love show, Manchester's The Funk Assasin. This mix takes on Gliterbox Classics and includes wonders from Joey Negro, Folamour, Chaka Khan, Jocelyn Brown, Dimitri From Paris and Sister Sledge.
