Music Reviews - June 2021

Regardless of surviving, my busiest - and most profitable - month since December 2019 with a Month of Euro-Madness, there was a little time for choice choonage. This month, some mega mixes from the legendary Dr Packer, and The House of Salsoul via Defected. Plus top tunage from Andy Buchan and DoctorSoul.

There's lots of free music downloads on SoundCloud too - if you don't have an account yet, get on it! Follow me at for more & and/or for genre-ish specific stuff, check my SC playlists: Future Funk & Nu Disco, Hip-Hop (Ippity Oppity), R&B, Reggae, Disco Classics, MiniMixes, and Kandi Tastic (Soulful House).

Top Tune Reviews

Andy Buchan - Bless Ny Soul (Bettye Swan Edit)

Released via a four-track EP in December 2019, this 1974 Philly Soul gem "When the Game is Played on You" gets a well-deserved disco revival (the original I hadn't heard before tbh).

DoctorSoul- You're Never Too Young (Just Talk About That, Re - Therapy)

Not sure if I'm too old to be getting down to this one… the Paris-based DoctorSoul gets on the re-edit duties of this '84 chart hit from The Cool Notes; a cheeky extended 8 minute version here.

Mega Mix Reviews

Dr Packer - Street Sounds Re-Edit Show (June 2021)

Two hours of delicious re-edits from Packer himself, plus gems from Mark Knight, Michael Gray, and the familiar sounding DJ SS. Artists getting well-earned touches include Soul II Soul, Carl Cox, the Gibson Brothers and Shapeshifters no less. Simply awesome stuff.

The House Of Salsoul Records - Glitterbox Radio Show

Melvo Baptiste and the Glitterbox crew never fail to deliver the goods. For this session, they delve deep into the crates to put together a mix as a homage to the powerhouse that is 70s record label Salsoul Records. Over two hours of gorgeous vocal house edits and reworks.
